Cycling Nutrition

You may ask yourself how much food you have to eat every day to keep your body fueled with energy. Most of us think that less is more. If you think that eating one meal per day would make you look thinner than you are absolutely wrong.

I’ve got some friends that reported me how many meals they usually have every day. One said to me that he skips breakfast and another one said to me that he likes to eat only in the evening. I was like how is that possible. I said to him don’t you get extremely hungry for that time being without food? And then I realized that he learned his body to endure that long amount of time without eating any meal.

Well he is extremely athletic and although he is only 16 years old, he’s heavier than I am. He used to train basketball and he was pretty good at it. But now it’s obvious that he eats less food than I do but only meal at day! This must be a real shocker for his body as it constantly has to made reserves for another day.

As I love cycling, he asked me if could join me some day. I said of course why not. But he wanted to cycle for 150 kilometers with me which is absolute overkill. Of course I said to him that no way you are going to make it. And even if he did it, he would be totally exhausted from cycling.

One day we finally decided to take a ride. I was in form and I knew I could easily cycle for that mileage. He insisted with his method of not eating for the whole day. He ate one small meal, and that was only one small piece of bread. After doing 90 kilometers he was already exhausted and the sweat was running out of him. I was going to call somebody to come and pick him up. He simply was going to refuse that. We finally made it with ultra slow tempo.

He was beaten up and was walking for the last 2 kilometers. But as I said he was very strong and athletic. I am sure that he has so much condition that he could done it. But because of food he wasn’t able to finish as he wanted to. More meals you have, than the better. And don’t just eat any food. Eat every day different food, lots of fruits and vegetables. This is not myth it really works and I learned that myself.
